On a homestead of five mu,
if mulberries are planted around the house,
those of fifty may wear silk.
If the breeding of chickens, pigs, dogs, and swine
is not neglected in their seasons,
those of seventy may eat meat.
On a farm of a hundred mu,
if the seasons of cultivation are not interfered with,
a family of eight mouths need not go hungry.
If the education of the village schools
is clearly stressed
and repeated inculcation is given to filial and fraternal duties,
those whose hair has turned gray will not be carrying burdens on the roads.
When those of seventy wear silk and eat meat
and the common people are neither hungry nor cold,
it is impossible for their prince not to be a true King.
